Looking for a specific TYPE of piece?
Any of my blog items tagged portfolio are either published or show my work at it’s best, but here they are broken up by type. (Head’s up: some obviously overlap.)
- news items or covering events
- profiles or straight up interviews
- travel & documentary
- how-to’s and educational
- viral-based (like you would see on Buzzfeed or Upworthy)
- editorial items and more personal essay type
- reviews, whether it’s of theatre, film, books, or other items
I’ve also helped an interactive multimedia story:
Raising the Bar — part of Off the Freeway. This was a project that my Advanced Multimedia class did in the spring of 2014. I coded and designed the home page, the About page, and the Competitions page. I also wrote and took the photos that accompanied the article on the Competitions page.
You can see all of my tags here.

Some of my photos have been used in websites:
- Book Review: The New Urban Question by Andy Merrifield – photo of the London skyline
- World Book Day: Dewey need library benches? – photo of the Dr. Seuss book bench in London
- Book Cheap Travel liked one of my Arizona photos as well as one of my Colorado photos
The people I’ve written about have said some nice things about me:
- “It came out so good!!! It’s honestly a little bit rare to have the finished product actually reflect how we think and feel and I feel so honored and listened to by this article.” – The Doubleclicks, in response to my article on them for The Mary Sue
- “Wow you really nailed it! The producers found your review on their own and were thrilled.” – the press person on my review of We Have Always Lived in the Castle
- “I just finished listening to it. Bravo. I couldn’t be happier with it.” – Aaron Guzzo, about his podcast interview
- “Having been fortunate enough to have worked in a popular anime series, I’ve been interviewed several times. But I can honestly say this is the best interview ever.” – Petrea Burchard, about her podcast interview
Finally, here are some items of note:
- I’m listed as a critic review on the Stripped IMDB page
- One of my articles is used as a reference on Patricia Tallman’s Wikipedia page
- I was quoted as a childfree by choice person in an article by my friend Renée Fabian in her article, “Asking ‘Are You Having Kids?’ Can Damage a Person’s Mental Health, Here’s Why…”
- I was a guest on Your Biggest Fangirl podcast, episode 32
- G33K Out is listed as a Fandom Resource on Katherine Larsen’s website (Larsen teaches writing and media studies at The George Washington University, and is the Editor of The Journal of Fandom Studies)
- I did a guest post for the OTW (Organization for Transformative Works)
- My review of Lost Notes was included in its listing on Great Pods
- A tweet of mine was used in the article “23 scariest 4-word British horror stories” (see #8)
