The Longest Day Fundraiser 2024 – Round 2 Interview Announcements

article, Longest Day

More than 6 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s, and over 11 million friends and family are providing unpaid care.

As mentioned, on Thursday, June 20, 2024, I’m participating in “The Longest Day”, a fundraiser for Alzheimer’s Association, where I plan on livestreaming podcast interviews as long as I can.

Our second round of interview announcements include a writer/editor, a cartoonist, and an entertainment journalist.

Jennifer Lee RossmanFirst up is Jennifer Lee Rossman. Jen is a queer, disabled, and autistic author and editor from the land of carousels and Rod Serling. Their work has been featured in dozens of anthologies, and their queer reincarnation thriller Blue Incarnations is available now. I started following them on Twitter / X a couple of months ago as they were liveblogging seeing Buffy, the Vampire Slayer and Angel for the first time. They are hilarious and I can’t wait to talk to them.

Next up is John Kovalic. John is an award-winning cartoonist, game designer and writer. His work’s appeared everywhere from The New York Times to Rolling Stone and Dragon Magazine. His world of geeky goodies includes John KovalicDork Tower – one of the very first webcomics, debuting online in 1996.

John was a co-founder of Out of the Box Games, and helped in the creation of the revolutionary party game, Apples to Apples. John’s also responsible for the look of the fan-favorite perennial best-seller Munchkin card game. He’s drawn more than 7,000 cards for the game and wouldn’t mind a spot of whiskey now, thanks. John was inducted into the Games Manufacturers Hall of Fame in 2004. In his spare time, John searches for spare time.

I’ve been a fan of his for a while, and he was on my list for the fundraiser I did in 2022, but times just didn’t link up. I look forward to talking to him about his work as an artist and a gamer.

Mary MurphyThe final bio in this round is Mary Murphy. Mary is an award-winning newspaper, magazine, digital and television journalist who covers entertainment, pop culture, politics, and the crisis of people experiencing homelessness. She is on the board of the Critics Choice Association. Murphy is an associate professor at USC Annenberg School of Communication and Journalism. She recently produced Tea Time, a half hour entertainment show for USC Annenberg media.

Murphy co-authored 2 books, Blood Cold and The New News. Blood Cold is a true crime murder investigation involving actor Robert Blake, which has been bought as a movie. The New News is a journalists guide to producing digital content for online & mobile news.

I was privileged to have Mary as a teacher and as one of my thesis advisors when I attended USC for their Master’s in Specialized Journalism. She is one of my mentors, and I look forward to talking about her work as a journalist and how it’s changed.

The next round of interview subjects will be announced next Monday. A reminder that the livestream will be on Riverside and YouTube on June 20, 2024. To see a full schedule of the day and to donate, visit www.angiefsutton.com/tld.
