The Longest Day Fundraiser – Round 2 Interview Announcements
Round 2 is ready to be announced with three men all working in the film industry.
First up is a person I mentioned I was talking to in my last article. Jon Davey is an actor and filmmaker I met at the Doctor Who convention Gallifrey One. He’s a long-time creature performer who’s been working with Doctor Who since 2006. He has been in all of the iterations (Doctor Who, Torchwood, The Sarah Jane Adventures, and Class) and has pretty much played every major monster they have.
When not being on Doctor Who, he also is a cinematographer/filmmaker who has worked with Radiohead, Cat Stevens, Run the Jewels, and Scissor Sisters. We’ll talk about both his work on television as well as his filmmaking. Read more about him on his website.
The next announcement is Dylan Valley. Dylan and I met back in 2013 when we both attended USC’s master’s program in Specialized Journalism: The Arts. He’s an award-winning documentary filmmaker and educator who views film as a liberatory tool. He is currently a Lecturer at the Centre for Film and Media Studies at the University of Cape Town, and a PhD student in media studies at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg. He also did a virtual reality documentary at Sundance in 2020.
When he’s not busy directing documentaries, he is on the editorial board of the Pan-African arts, politics, and culture blog Africa is a Country. We’ll delve into documentary filmmaking and his PhD research, which explores how the internet is shaping new forms of filmmaking on the African continent and in the diaspora. Check him out on his website.
Finally, I met (and interviewed very briefly) Jim Meskimen at the 2019 Writers and Illustrators of the Future Awards. He’s an actor, impressionist, and voice-over artist. When not working his day job as a voice actor, Jim has performed improv with several companies and did hundreds of live shows, and was even on the UK version of Who’s Line is it Anyway?
He recently finished working on the Starz series Gaslit, Amazon’s Hunters, and more. He also provides the voice of iconic Colonel Harland Sanders for KFC. Most notably, he has an online course on how to become a working actor, with special courses in voiceover and impressions. We’ll talk about his career as an actor and how he approaches his craft as both a voiceover artist and impressionist. You can find out more about him on his website.
I’ve got a few more people that are definite but I still need to place: you can see the schedule as it updates as well as how to tune in the day of on this page of my website. Stay tuned and stay geeky!
