The Longest Day Fundraiser 2024 – Round 3 Interview Announcements

article, Longest Day

Hundreds of thousands of Alzheimer’s Association advocates nationwide speak out on behalf of the needs and rights of people facing Alzheimer’s. This Thursday, June 20, 2024, I’ll be livestreaming podcast interviews from 7 am to 7 pm Pacific as part of the Alzheimer’s Association’s “The Longest Day” fundraiser.

Here’s the latest guest announcements.

First up is playwright Pete Bakely. Pete has been an actor/playwright/theatre producer in Kansas City for quite some time now. Born with the looks of a character actor, he’s made a career of playing the evil and insane in Kansas City theatre, with just a dollop of Musical Comedy roles. He has a high ratio of people killed over people kissed on his resume. Pete is currently working on Bath (a telling of the Elizabeth Bathory story with supermodels) and With My Tongue in your Tail, about harassment and plagiarism.

He and I have known each other for years, and I actually have interviewed him before. (See this and this.) But this will be the first time on THIS podcast. We’ll talk about what it’s like to be a playwright in 2024, how it’s changed since he started, and since we both knew marsha morgan (the person this fundraiser is for), probably reminisce about her as well.

Next up is writer / cartoonist Sarah Andersen. Sara is the author of Sarah’s Scribbles, FANGS, and Cryptid Club. Sarah’s Scribbles has won three Goodreads Choice awards and her other series have been nominated for three Eisners. Originally from New England, she now lives in Portland, Oregon, with her fluffy black cat.

My wife and I have been a fan of Sarah’s for quite some time, and I love her takes on cats, fandom, and life. In fact, my wife actually has original Sarah Andersen artwork on her arm as a tattoo. We’ll talk about her writing, her artwork, and what she’s working on now.

The third guest announcement on this update is scientist Trina Ray. Currently the Deputy Science Manager and Investigation Scientist for the radar instrument on NASA’s Europa Clipper Mission, she worked 20 years on Cassini-Huygens Mission to Saturn (specializing in Titan), and started her career working on Voyager. She is an active public speaker, invited to give many talks around the nation.

We met at Gallifrey One, and we’ll talk about her work at JPL, the intersection of science and science fiction, and of course her work on Europa.

We have one more round of interviews to announce – just waiting to confirm the last person on my schedule. To see a full schedule of the day and to donate, visit www.angiefsutton.com/tld.
